Holter Monitoring
Ambulatory Holter Monitoring is available to family physicians and specialists.
- The physician will provide you with a requisition for this test.
- Appointments are required and should be by the physician’s office or by the patient and booked at the locations listed here.
The following information is required when booking the appointment:
- Patient’s name
- Home phone number
- Work phone number
- Ordering physician
- Diagnosis
- Requested reading physician
Information required for pacemaker patients:
- Make
- Mode
- Rate
- Hospital of implant or Pacemaker clinic
Patient instruction brochures
Patient instruction brochures are available in English, French, Chinese and Punjabi (click on the languages to download brochure). These brochures can also be picked up at the nearest Patient Service Centre or contact the Material Management Order Desk at 604-507-5126 or 1-800-565-1441.

Processing of Holter Monitors
Holters are scanned at our main laboratory. The scanned Holters are then forwarded to a Cardiologist/Internist of the physician’s choice for interpretation. Report return to the ordering physician is approximately five working days following disconnection, but this may vary depending on the reading physician. Same day report return for urgent cases is available upon request. Verbal and preliminary reports can be obtained through the Cardiac Monitoring department at 604-507-5106 or 1-800-565-1441.
Critical Arrhythmias
If a critical arrhythmia as listed below is observed during patient hook-up, our staff member will immediately contact the ordering physician and request direction as to the handling of the patient and the Holter.

Runs of four (4) or more VPB’s together. Heart rate of 160 bpm or greater |
