Mobile Laboratory Services
The Mobile Lab Services of BC Bio make regular home visits to individuals and residents of more than 180 Long Term Care facilities throughout the Lower Mainland, including nursing homes, private hospitals and retirement lodges.This service is provided at no charge to the patient and adds no additional charge to the Medical Services Plan. To ensure service is available to those patients truly in need, this service can only be offered to those patients with medical or special needs who meet the following eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria for Mobile Laboratory Service:
- Patient is home and/or bed bound and leaving home would compromise his/her health
- Patient is unwell and a trip outside the home would cause physical distress
- Patient has a psychiatric disorder, such as agoraphobia or debilitating anxiety which prevents him/her from leaving home
Patients NOT eligible for Mobile Laboratory Service:
- Patient is able to drive a motor vehicle
- Patient is able to arrange transportation for shopping, banking or other activities
- Patient is able/has returned to work
- A patient who resides in an "Assisted Living Complex" is not eligible for this service unless the eligibility criteria above are met
Requesting Mobile Laboratory Service:
- Assessment for Mobile Laboratory Service must be made by a physician
Note: Requests for service from patients or family members will not be accepted
- Obtain a Mobile Laboratory Service Eligibility Request Form on our website or by telephoning one of the offices listed below
- Indicate the eligibility criteria for service and the expected length of mobile laboratory service on the Mobile Laboratory Service Eligibility Request Form
- Fax completed Mobile Laboratory Service Eligibility Request Form and laboratory requisition to the appropriate office listed below
- When the completed Mobile Laboratory Service Eligibility Request Form and laboratory requisition are received, we will contact the patient to schedule a mobile laboratory visit within one week of the request
Note: Due to high demand for our service, we cannot provide the patient an exact appointment time
- Stat requests require a physician after hours contact number for results reporting
- Orders, changes or additions for laboratory testing must originate from the physician who placed the original order
We will contact you to discontinue Mobile Laboratory Service if:
- Patient no longer meets eligibility criteria
- Patient is not at home on two separate occasions unless absence is due to hospitalization or emergency
- Our employees encounter any verbal and/or physical threat from the patient, caregiver, family member or family pet
