Critical Values - Microbiology

A Medical Microbiologist will contact the ordering physician to discuss the following results:

• Any growth in a Blood Culture
• Any Pathogen from a joint fluid or any other sterile fluid
• Corynebacterium diphtheriae (any site)
• Clostridium perfingens(wound)
• Listeria
• E. coli 0157 from children < 8 years
• Neisseria meningitidis (blood culture, eyes)
• Neisseria gonorrhoeae (eyes)
• Salmonella paratyphi
• Salmonella typhi
• Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus
